First Russian LVAD Sputnik

Team of Russian scientists and engineers created first Russian left ventricular assist device Sputnik (LVAD Sputnik).
It was designed to replace left ventricular function in patients with severe heart failure and can be used in a cardiac surgical unit of any clinic or hospital as opposed to heart transplants performed only in specialized transplant centers.

Left Ventricular Assist Device
First Russian LVAD Sputnik Heart failure is one of the most dangerous diseases that affects the heart’s pumping function. On terminal stages of heart failure, medication and therapeutic methods prove ineffective and the only way to save a patient’s life is heart transplantation or implantation of artificial devices supporting or replacing the patient’s circulatory system. A huge step in heart failure treatment was the invention of portable devices that allow patients to lead normal lives outside the hospital.
